Presentations
2006
- November 21, 2006 - Digital Media 101 - (please ignore the less than flattering photo... you had to be there.) Digital Media 101 was another opportunity to engage an audience in thinking about what it means to experience a memorable interactive moment. As we delve into more and more computerization (surrogate replacements that allow us to converse without actually talking to anyone), we tend to lose our need for story and emotional engagement. This presenation was about the need for our learning to connect with stories that matter to us. I liked the online post by Anne Galloway comparing our presentation to Steve Johnson's "Everything Bad is Good for You."
- October31, 2006 - Serious Games Summit - "Implementing Serious Games in the Industry Sector" This was an interesting opportunity to share some of our perspectives with an International audience. Mike Magee and I once again were at it again with a new presentation that showed how Alberta is making a difference on the Serious Games front.
- Aug 18, 2006 - Interactive Screen '06 - This was a chance for Michael Magee and I to banter about games and learning. I always enjoy the opportunity to share ideas with Mike. It doesn't matter whether we are in a coffee shop in the middle of some major city or sitting in front of a group willing to listen to us, Mike is an easy conversationalist who makes it easy to talk about big ideas. I appreciate Nichole McGill's concise summary of our talk. (you will have to scroll down to "Smart eLearning")

- User Interface Design Guidelines - learnalberta.ca - These guidelines were based on the excellent resource "Designing Visual Interfaces" by Mullet and Sano. It is a book I recommend to this day to anyone interested in designing interfaces of any kind.
- Content Development Specifications - learnalberta.ca - while I was the Multimedia Development Coordinator I had the privilege of working with some of the smartest people I have ever met. Together we did some neat stuff. One of the duties we had was to create a set of documentation that would serve to help our community of developers understand our project expectations.
